Repair and finish audio in one editor
Acoustica combines detailed spectral editing with restoration, multitrack arranging, and mastering tools. Its spectrogram lets you identify unwanted sounds such as barks, sirens, and coughs, then paint them out using time-frequency feathering. That makes the editor relevant to dialogue cleanup and music restoration, where a simple cut may remove wanted audio along with the noise.
For daily work on podcasts, post-production sessions, or older recordings, Acoustica brings repair and finishing steps into the same application. Version 8 adds machine-learning DeNoise 3 and DeHum, alongside click, crackle, and hum removal. The practical benefit is a range of tools for addressing different kinds of recording defects, though results still depend on the source material and the repair needed.
Editing workflow and DAW use
The editor supports stereo clip editing and lets you arrange several tracks in one project. For mixing and mastering, it includes dynamics, EQ, limiting, and dithering, so you can shape and finish tracks without leaving the application. Its feature set is aimed more at restoration and production work than at users who only need basic trimming.
An ARA2 plug-in opens Acoustica’s clip editor inside compatible DAWs, including Pro Tools, Cubase, Studio Pro, and Reaper. All editions include an ARA2 plug-in for compatible hosts and a transfer plug-in for Pro Tools. Installing the ARA or VST3 plug-ins is relevant when you want to use the editor as part of a DAW workflow rather than working only in Acoustica.
Edition scope and trial terms
The Standard edition costs $149 as a one-time license and is limited to stereo. Multichannel work and some additional restoration tools require a higher edition, so the Standard version may not cover surround-oriented projects. Premium costs $299 and Ultimate costs $449; the higher editions include multichannel and extra restoration tools. These are one-time purchases rather than subscriptions.
The fully functional trial lasts 30 days and does not require a credit card. After the trial, a license is needed to continue using the program. This gives prospective users time to test the spectral and restoration workflow against their own recordings, while making the trial period a clear boundary rather than a permanent free edition.
Platform availability and fit
Acoustica runs on Windows 10, Windows 11, and macOS, with a Linux version in public beta. Acon Digital has developed the program for over twenty years, and Version 8 also brings a redesigned interface and AudioFill interpolation. Extract:Dialogue 2 is available in higher editions, which further distinguishes those editions for dialogue-focused work.
For podcast editors, post-production engineers, and musicians restoring noisy recordings, the combination of spectral repair, DAW integration, and mastering controls can support a complete cleanup and finishing workflow. Its limits matter just as much: Standard is stereo-only, advanced tools are divided among editions, and the 30-day trial does not provide ongoing use without a license. Beginners who need only basic cutting may find the restoration-oriented toolset unnecessary.
